About Me

I am Steve Andrews.  I live in Tallahassee, Florida.  I’m a husband, a father, a father-in-law, a grandfather (yikes!), a painter, an attorney, a mountain bike racer, a sailor and a general doer of whatever grabs my attention at the time.  This blog is mostly about the painter part.  I’ve painted professionally (meaning people actually pay me good money to enjoy something that I created with a lot of enjoyment myself) for almost twenty years.

I’m also an attorney with a full time solo practice, and I always get that inevitable question.  How do you do both of these things?  It’s not easy.  I do both of them for different reasons.  Obviously, I paint because I love it.  I love the process of creation.  I love trying to communicate a feeling, a spirit, a sense of a place or a time through the vehicle of paint.  I love that it is a finished product.  I love that it doesn’t talk back.   I love that it doesn’t ask questions.  I love that it doesn’t have a defense attorney trying to make me a fool.  I love that it doesn’t have a judge.  (Well it doesn’t have just one judge).   I also love the other job. (Well “love” is maybe not quite the right word).  I do recognize that being an attorney has provided me with an incredible advantage.  I get to help people navigate through a complex legal system.   I get paid well.   And because I own my own business I have a lot of freedom to allow me to make these two worlds – art and law – work together.

[Here’s a link to a blog post my daughter wrote about me.  It gives you more of a personal viewpoint, and she’s a big fan, so I like it.]

As I said, this blog is mostly about the painter part.    So thanks for looking.
